What Is Your Secret Desire?

What’s your secret desire?

What’s the one thing you wish for, the tiny spark hovering in the back of your mind? What do you dream about in the dark quiet, when everything else falls away and you are left with only your thoughts?

What would happen if you let that secret desire out of the cage of your mind?

Everything we see around us began with a thought, an idea.  Every invention, every piece of art, and every step we take begins as a tiny spark in the back of the mind.

Ideas become tangible when they are shared – when philosophers speak their philosophy, inventors create their inventions, and writers write their books.

Seventeen years ago, I had the desire of owning a dog.  I had never had a pet growing up.  I really didn’t have a clue about caring for a dog, but I just knew I wanted one.

My husband had grown up with several dogs.  His parents bred dogs and my husband had shown these dogs in competitions when he was a boy.  He was not keen on getting a dog.

To make my dream more real, I cut out pictures of puppies and would leave them around the house for my husband to find.  I left them on his pillow, in his car, hoping to convince him that a puppy would bring such happiness to our family.

Eventually, my targeted campaign worked, and he relented.  Scout joined us and took over our hearts (and our bed.)

If I hadn’t shared my quiet desire, I would not have Scout.  She would have remained an unfulfilled idea, existing only in my head, eventually becoming a regret and lost opportunity.

If artists don’t share their ideas, they deprive the world of their art.

If we don’t share our dreams and desires, we deprive ourselves of a more fulfilling life.

What is your secret desire?  Who can you share it with?  What would life look like if you made your idea more tangible?  What are you waiting for?
