Be A Problem Solver

It seems like everyone and their brother has a podcast these days. Name a topic and I am sure someone has a show about it.

One of my favorite podcasts is called, “How I Built This,” with Guy Raz.

Raz interviews entrepreneurs and delves deep into how some of the world’s most successful companies and brands got their start.

He has interviewed diverse people from all walks of life. Here are a few:

  • Sarah Blakely – Spanx

  • Ethan Brown – Beyond Meat

  • Julia Hartz – Eventbrite

  • Lara Merriken – LARABAR

  • Wendy Kopp – Teach for America

  • Whitney Wolfe – Bumble

  • Michael Dubin – Dollar Shave Club

  • Adam Lowry & Eric Ryan – method

  • Randy Hetrik – TRX

The one thing they all have in common is that they began by solving a problem. They encounter an obstacle in their lives, maybe they need panty hose with no feet or want a vegan snack bar with just a few whole natural ingredients. Then they set out to solve that problem.

Look at anything in your home. It was invented to solve a problem. Entrepreneurs are essentially people who, through passion and persistence, created a product to sell that solved a problem.

Anyone can be a problem solver. You can be a problem solver. I’m sure you have said to yourself, “There has got to be a better way.”

Your problem doesn’t have to be huge, and your solution doesn’t have to be complex. If you are improving a situation, idea, product, process then you are making a difference. You are making progress.

  • Reorganizing your pantry to make it more efficient.

  • Creating a morning routine to reduce stress.

  • Purchasing birthday cards for the year so you’re not scrambling at the last minute.

  • Scheduling time to meditate or exercise.

These ideas might not make you a millionaire, but they are valuable in their own way.

Any solution to a problem that improves your day-to-day life is priceless.

Where in your life can you be a problem solver? What can you fix, improve, grow?
